you write such pretty words.
So… Taylor Swift is supposedly cast for the role of Eponine in the upcoming film adaptation of Les Miserables.
Admittedly, I really don’t know much about Les Miserables. I’ve never seen it performed in a film or on the stage, but from what I can gather on Wikipedia, everyone dies.
And I don’t know how I feel about Taylor being cast. On one hand, I love her and am happy that she is expanding her horizons. As horrible of a movie as Valentine’s Day was, I think that she played her part to a T. And when people talk about how bad an actor is, I say the same thing I always say which is, “An actor can only do so much with what they’re given.”
I think the casting choice for this is a little odd. I think Hugh Jackman is good for a Broadway adaption and Helena Bonham Carter will knock it out of the park just like always. Amanda Seyfried seems to do well in a musical, judging from Mamma Mia!
But, T-Swizzle? I am of the opinion that Taylor is actually a decent singer when she arranges her own music. When she’s not being forced to sound like a Carrie Underwood wannabe, she actually sound pretty good. You cannot judge her sound from an awards show performance because, to be quite honest, EVERYONE sounds bad at awards shows. When I watched her Speak Now DVD, I was actually quite impressed with her sound. When everything was arranged to suit her natural alto tone, she sounded good and not overproduced or Auto-Tuney. Her most recent release for The Hunger Games soundtrack, “Safe and Sound”, actually shows a little bit more of her vocal range. Granted, singing is not her strong suit, but her songwriting remains her best talent.
So, I don’t know how I feel about her in a Broadway adaptation. I want to kind of go in with a clean slate and not judge anything because obviously the casting director saw something in her (even if it was her massive amounts of fans, but Lea Michele had those, too, so what gives?) that nobody else does right now. I think we should at least give it a chance. Everyone would have felt the same way no matter who was casted, so let’s just calm it down a notch and just give it a chance. If you don’t like it, then complain.
